Lieutenant Commander Adrian Stancu, the pilot on a MiG 21 LanceR aircraft of the Romanian Air Force, ejected in the proximity of Mihail Kogalniceanu airport, in the area of Nazarcea locality, Constanta County, today June 12, around 11.15 hrs., during the landing maneuvers.

The pilot is conscious and in a stable condition. He was recovered, received the first aid on site and then transported to the County Hospital Constanta.

The aircraft of the 86th Locotenent aviator Gheorghe Mociornita Air Base of Fetesti, had took off from Mihail Kogalniceanu Air Base around 10.00 hrs., as part of a training mission within Thracian Eagle 2017 exercise, conducted in common with the Bularian Air Forces.

After mission, upon return to Mihail Kogalniceanu, during the landing maneuvers, the pilot reported a major failure of the engine.

According to procedures, the pilot ejected whereas the aircraft crashed outside inhabited areas.

The accident is under investigation by the Military Prosecutors, in compliance with the legal provisions, while the circumstances of the accident will be investigated by a comission appointed by the chief of the Air Staff.
