The Chief of General Staff's Meeting with Deputy Commander Operations of RAF

General Nicolae Ciuca, the chief of General Staff, had a meeting with Lieutenant General (AF) Stuart Atha, Deputy Commander Operations of the Royal Air Force, on Wednesday, June 28, during the latter's visit in Romania.

The two military officials discussed integration and synchronizing training at national level with NATO's regional initiatives, ongoing exercises, Romania's and Great Britain's initiatives concerning eFP enhanced Forward Presence and tFP-tailored Forward Presence, with focus on the combined air training and the measures to secure the national and the allied air space as part of the eAP measures, to enhance Air Policing.

At the end of the meeting, the chief of General Staff reiterated the importance of combined air training, within multinational exercises and the allied Air Police mission for increasing interoperability. He also spoke highly of the participation of NATO member states to enhancing Air Policing in the region, with a major impact in strengthening the eastern flank of the Alliance.

On the background of the reassurance measures established at NATO Summit in Wales, the Royal Air Force deployed a 160 strong detachment and 4 TYPHOON aircraft in Romania, for the period May to August 2017, in order to consolidate air defence along the eastern border of NATO.
