Chief of General Staff's Meeting with the Chief of Defence Staff of the United Kingdom

General Nicolae Ciuca, the chief of General Staff had a meeting with Air Chief Marshal Sir Stuart Peach, the Chief of Defence Staff of the United Kingdom (CDS UK), on Thursday, July 6, during the latter's working visit in Romania.

The two military officials discussed military cooperation and ways of developing it both at bilateral level and within NATO.

The two delegations also discussed the stage and perspectives of the allied presence at the Black Sea, promoting common training in Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance and Special Operations Forces, the Very High Readiness Joint Task Force, rendering operational the Multinational Brigade and, especially, the training initiative in Air Policing.

At the end of the meeting, the two officials expressed satisfaction for the level of military cooperation. They emphasized in this respect the cooperation between Romanian and British forces during current operations and missions led by NATO or the EU, and during international military exercises, especially the ones conducted in Romania.

As part of the visit, Air Chief Marshal Sir Stuart Peach and General Nicolae Ciuca had a meeting with the RAF detachment deployed at Mihail Kogalniceanu Air Base.

The visit in Romania of the Chief of Defence Staff of the United Kingdom takes place in the context of RAF detachment's participation in the eAP - enhanced Air Policing within the eFP enhanced Forward Presence and tFP-tailored Forward Presence and the Combined Air Training to increase allied interoperability as an illustration of the operational commitment of Great Britain as member of the Alliance, to promote and maintain peace and stability, with focus mainly on ensuring the security of the eastern flank of NATO.
