Media Opportunities at Saber Guardian 2017 on Sunday, July 16
The training actions and events associated with exercise Saber Guardian 2017 (SG17) available for media coverage on Sunday, July 16 are forcing a river crossing at Bordușani, Ialomița County, a mass casualty exercise taking place at Mihail Kogalniceanu and a night river crossing in Vâlcea County.
• The Distinguished Visitors’ Day of exercise Argedava Saber 17 consisting in forcing a river crossing will take place on Sunday, July 16, at 11.00 hrs., on Borcea tributary to the Danube river, in the area of Bordușani village, Constanța County.
The activity involves over 1,500 Romanian and 100 US troops with about 400 combat systems.
The main structures involved in the exercise are part of the Romanian Land Forces, namely 2nd “Getica” Infantry Division, 10th “Dunărea de Jos” Engineer Brigade, 1st “Argedava” Mechanized Brigade, 9th “Mărășești” Mechanized Brigade, 528th Search and Surveillance Regiment, 630th Paratrooper Battalion, 307th Marines Battalion, structures of military intelligence and PSYOPS. The actions of the Land Forces have the support of a Navy group of the River Flotilla and aircraft of the Romanian Air Force.
The American troops belong to the 2nd Cavalry Regiment.

• The Distinguished Visitors’ Day of the MASCAL-type exercise (mass casualty) will take place at Mihail Kogălniceanu Air Base, at 15.00 hrs., on Sunday, July 16.
The medevac (mass casulaty) exercise MASCAL, conducted over July 10 to 17 at Mihail Kogălniceanu Air Base is based on a plausible scenario for the training in hospital medical care for the 30th US Medical Brigade that leads the exercise and three NATO ROL 2 hospitals (212nd US Field Hospital, Medical Formation ROL 2 of the Romanian military and the Balkan Medical Formation) deployed to Mihail Kogălniceanu.
According to the scenario, soldiers simulating injuries they got while forcing the river crossing at Bordușani and during the artillery air defence fire at Capu Midia will be sorted medically and will be given the appropriater medical care.
Romania participates in the exercise with the Enlarged Medical Formation ROL 2 and with several medical formations ROL 1 of the Land, Naval and Air Forces.

• Another media opportunity is a night river crossing, in the proximity of Râureni, Vâlcea County, on the night of July 16/17.
About 500 Romanian troops of the Multinational Brigade South-East and the 10th “Dunărea de Jos” Engineer Brigade, 1,000 US troops of the 2nd Cavalry Regiment and about 440 Polish, German, Dutch, Macedonian, Slovenian, Lithuanian and British soldiers will carry out complex combat operations with about 740 technical means, while crossing a river during the night.
