Air-Defence Exercise TOBRUQ LEGACY 2017 at Capu Midia

Media representatives are invited to participate in a sequence of exercise TOBRUQ LEGACY 2017 (TL17) with live air-defence fire at the Training Camp and Shooting Range in Capu Midia, from 12.00 hrs., on Wednesday, July 19.

About 1,000 troops from 16 NATO member countries, 250 of which are Romanian, participate in the air-defence exercise TL17, a support exercise of Saber Guardian 2017 (SG17), that takes place over 12 to 22 July at Mihail Kogalniceanu Air Base and the Training Camp and Shooting Range in Capu Midia.

The Romanian Air Force participate in this associated event with medium-range HAWK missiles, while the USA bring in PATRIOT and AVENGER missile systems, Slovenia participates with SA-24 missile systems, while the Romanian Land Forces bring in air-defence systems SA-6 and GEPARD.

The journalists accredited to this event through the accreditation procedure mentioned in the press release on the media events associated to SG17 (Press Release No. 176 of June 23) are expected at the Training Camp and Shooting Range in Capu Midia, until 11.00 hrs., on Wednesday, July 18. TL17 is conducted simultaneoulsy in three countries, Czech Republic, Lithuania and Romania, involving about 1,600 troops.

TL17 shows the interoperability among multiple air-defence structures in Europa, contributing to the consolidation of the deterrence efforts of NATO.

Residents in the area are reminded to observe the safety measures taken for the duration of the live fire exercises.

The exercised is led by U.S. Army Europe (USAREUR) in Bulgaria, Romania and Hungary.
