Defence Minister's Meeting with the Ambassador of France to Bucharest

The Minister of National Defence, Adrian Țutuianu, received the visit of the French Ambassador to Bucharest, Ms. Michèle Ramis, at the defence ministry, on Monday, July 31.

The two officials discussed bilateral cooperation both within the Alliance and the EU and praized the strong bond between Romania and France, pointing out the importance of the political and military dialogue. They spoke of intensifying defence cooperation, within the Alliance and the EU, with a view to ensuring a coherent and adequate response to the current challenges and threats to Euro-Atlantic security.

Minister Adrian Țutuianu emphasized the importance of continuing the allied endeavours to fully implement all the measures agreed on at NATO Summit in Warsaw, especially the unified approach concerning the eastern flank of the Alliance. He also pointed out the progress in enhancing NATO forward presence in our country and in the Black Sea region.

Romania supports the consolidation of the EU role as a main actor on the international security stage and stays strongly anchored in the efforts to implement the EU Global Strategy on security and defence, the defence minister said.

During the discussions they approached topics such as the fight against terrorism, when Minister THutuianu reiterated the pledge made by Romania to endorse the efforts of the international community to ensure the security and stability of Iraq and Syria and the fight against terrorist and extremist organizations that activate in these countries, especially against DAESH, by participating in the Global Coalition against Daesh.
