The Ministry of National Defence and the Council of Vrancea County organize military ceremonies in memory of WW 1 heroes, as follows:

• the Mausoleum of Romanian Heroes at Soveja, Vrancea County, at 12.00 hrs., on Friday August 4;
• on Sunday, August 6:
- the Mausoleum of Romanian Heroes in Focsani, at 11.00 hrs.;
- blessing the Commemorative Cross, in Haret (Marasesti), at 18.00 hrs.;
- the Mausoleum of the Romanian Heroes at Marasesti, at 20.00 hrs., when cannons will fire and aircraft of the Romanian Air Force will fly over the monument.

The activities are part of the WW 1 Centenary initiative, as 2017 is The Year of Marasti, Marasesti, Oituz - 100, when the defence ministry organizes symbolic cultural and artistic events.

The Ministry of National Defence invites citizens to participate in the commemoration activities of WW 1 heroes.

Journalists who wish to attend the military ceremony in Marasesti, at 20.00 hrs., are requested to get their accreditation by sending personal ID and organization details at presa@cjvrancea.ro, by 16.00hrs., on Friday, August 4.

The Mausoleum in Soveja was raised in 1929, in memory of the heroes who fell in the battles of 1916 to 1918. The remains of 2,000 Romanian and Russian soldiers are held in the ossuary.

The Mausoleum in Focsani was built in 1925 and was partially financed by public subscription. The ossuary holds the remains of 581 unknown soldiers who fell in the region of Panciu, Ruginesti and Nanesti, during the war for the reunion of Romania, during 1916-1919.

One of the greatest monuments in the country, the Mausoleum in Marasesti, inaugurated on September 18, 1938, was built on the place where, in the summer of 1917, the Romanian military heroically opposed the German military. During the battles of Marasesti, 480 Romanian officers and 21,000 soldiers died. At present, the mausoleum holds the remains of 5,073 soldiers and officers in 154 individual crypts and nine common ones.
