Meetings of State Secretary Mircea Dusa at the Defence Ministry HQ

State Secretary Mircea Dusa, chief of the Departament for Defence Policy and Planning had a series of meetings and official talks with the ambassador of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and the ambassador of the Lebanese Republic in Bucharest, at the defence ministry, on Tuesday, September 5th.

Mircea Dusa emphasized that both Jordan and Lebanon are valued and trustworthy partners in the Middle East, all the more so as the international security environment has been seriously damaged by the crisis in the region.

The talks with H.E. Saker Malkawi, the Ambassador of Jordan focused on concrete projects of cooperation in fields such as counter-terrorism, management of human resources and military medicine. They stressed the important role played by the Joint Romanian-Jordanian Committee, that meets on an annual basis, with its next meeting in Bucharest this autumn.

Mircea Dusa expressed his conviction that the relations between Romania and Jordan will intensify in the near future as provided by the inter-government agreement on military cooperation.

The second meeting that took place was with the Lebanese Ambassador, H.E. Rana Mokaddem, and focused on the ,,Agreement between the Government of Romania and the Government of the Lebanese Republic on defence cooperation. The details provided by the document were negociated in the framework of the official visit made by Mircea Dusa in Lebanon in May this year. They reiterated the discussons with the Lebanese minister of defence, when they established the domains with a high potential of cooperation, such as defence planning, training and education of military personnel, technical and military cooperation.

The respective agreement will be signed after it undergoes the approval procedures and then it would have the approval of the Supreme Council of National Defence.

At the end of both rounds of discussions, the present officials praized the contributions of our country to the fight against terrorism.

Romania pledged itself to participate in the efforts of the International Coalition with military trainers and advisers. As to allied mission Resolute Support, our country will be one of the main contributing nations in 2018 as well, with about 700 military personnel.
