Meeting of State Secretary Mircea Dusa with the Lithuanian Vice-Minister of National Defence

State Secretary Mircea Dusa received the Lithuanian Vice-Minister of National Defence, Vytautas Umbrasas at the defence ministry, Tuesday, September 26th.

The two officials analized the stage of the bilateral cooperation between Romania and Lithuania and the perspectives of extending this cooperation in the field of defence.

The chief of the Department for Defence Policy and Planning said Lithuania is a reliable ally and stressed the importance of enhancing the political and military dialogue on security, taking into account the specifics of the geo-strategic position of the two countries, as flanks of NATO and the EU, and the mutual interest in promoting a unitary approach to the reassurance measures of the allies on the entire eastern flank.

Mircea Dusa reiterated Romania's commitment to participate in the implementation of the enhanced forward position of NATO (eFP), by contributing to the Battle Group in Poland under US command and mentioned that Romania, as Lithuania, is both a beneficiary and an active contributor to bringing them to fruiton.

The two officials discussed the possibility of initiating the cooperation between the Special Operations Forces that would include the common training of the soldiers, either in Lithania or in Romania. They also agreed on the need to continue such meetings for a better understanding of the current complex challenges of the security environment.

The visit in Romania of the Lithuanian Vice-Minister of National Defence will continue with his participation in the Special Operations Forces Symposium 'Europe: Building Trust', organized by the Global Special Operations Forces Foundation (Global SOF) in partnership with the Ministry of National Defense, over September 27 to 28, at the 'JW Marriott' Hotel in Bucharest.
