Mihai Fifor at NATO Defence Ministers' Meeting

The Minister of National Defence, Mihai Fifor, participates in NATO Defence Ministers' Meeting in Brussels, over November 8 to 9.
The event is a good opportunity to show the solidarity and unity of the Alliance over the two days that offer the framework for comprehensive political discussions at defence ministers' level on the political and military agenda of the alliance and, implicitly, on substantiating the preparation process of the NATO Summit of July 11-12, 2018.
This meeting represents a new opportunity to promote national interests in ensuring security in the Black sea region and consolidating a robust, coherent and unitary allied forward position within the efforts to consolidate the security of the allied eastern flank, minister Fifor said.

On the first day of the meeting, the defence ministers will focus on the nuclear posture of the Alliance in the context of the developments of the strategic security environment and the stage of implementing the decisions made at Warsaw NATO Summit. At the working dinner to be attended by Federica Mogherini, the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, the participants will discuss global security, including aspects related to North Korea.
On the second day of the meeting the discussions will focus on the developments of the security situation in Afghanistan and the allies' contributions to NATO Resolute Support (RSM). Defence minister Mihai Fifor will participate in the meeting of the Global Coalition against Daesh.

During the ministerial, the Romanian defence minister will have several bilateral meetings with James Mattis, the US Secretary of Defense, with his counterparts from Great Britain, France, Portugal, Turkey and Italy, as well as General Curtis M. Scaparrotti, Supreme Allied Commander Europe, when the officials will discuss topics of mutual interest or that are high on the Alliance agenda or at bilateral level, including enhancing the strategic dialogue and practical defence cooperation.
