Defence Minister's Bilateral Meetings at NATO Defence Ministerial

On the second day of NATO Defence Ministerial, Minister Mihai Fifor had bilateral meetings with his counterparts from France and Turkey, namely Florence Parly, and Nurettin Canikli respectively.

During his talks with the French defence minister, Mihai Fifor pointed out the need to continue the endeavours to ensure stability in the Black Sea region and emphasized the importance of the French military involvement in the allied exercises conducted in our country and their contribution to ensure the interoperability of the two armed forces. The two officials appreciated the importance of enhancing the military cooperation of the European countries, also from PESCO perspective. Minister Fifor also stressed the importance of this iniative in enhancing the cooperation on security and defence, a topic high on the European agenda.
The two ministers also agreed on intensifying bilateral cooperation in the field of military education and military medicine. In this respect, Mihai Fifor mentioned the intention to start the cooperation in the field, with a view to reviving and modernizing Cantacuzino Institutute.

The bilateral meeting with the Turkish counterpart was a good opportunity to exchange opinions on the developments in the Black Sea region and to think of new concrete ways of cooperation between Romania and Turkey, regarding regional stability and security. The two officials agreed on the fact that Romania and Turkey should coordinate in order to further the initiatives related to the allied tailored presence in the Black Sea region, with focus on the land and maritime dimension.
