The Joint Romanian-Hungarian Peacekeeping Battalion was set up on March 20, 1998 according to an agreement between the Government of Romania and the Government of Hungary signed in Budapest. It was the first unit of its kind in the Romanian Armed Forces and the first joint unit in the world of battalion level, with a strength of 899 servicemen.

The battalion command (commander, deputy commander, chief of staff and his deputy) is ensured by the two countries on a rotational basis.

During this week the Romanian soldiers participated in the WISE FORESIGHT 2017 exercise in Hodmezovasarhely, Hungary. Hungary has the command of the joint battalion this year.
