The meeting of the Defence Minister with his Latvian counterpart

On Monday, December 18, at the MoND headquarters, the minister of national defence, Mihai Fifor, met with the Latvian defence minister, Raimonds Bergmanis, who was on official visit to Romania.

The meeting agenda included topics referring to defence cooperation, both at bilateral level and within EU and NATO.

Since the beginning of the meeting, the Romanian defence minister stated the fact that the establishment of the NATO structures, both in Romania and Latvia, alongside the ones established in Bulgaria, Estonia, Lithuania and Poland, sent a strong signal of Allied reassurance and solidarity, in the current complex international context.

In this context, minister Fifor emphasized his determination to increase the readiness level of the Romanian Armed Forces, including through the procurement of modern equipment and systems.

The two officials confirmed their common intent of strengthening cooperation at all levels, including thorough the development of multinational military capabilities, conducted at the level of the international structures which Romania and Latvia are part of.

On this occasion, the two ministers signed a new Agreement between the Romanian Ministry of National Defence and the Ministry of Defence of Latvia on the cooperation in the military field, which document will allow the identification of new cooperation opportunities between the two states in the field of defence.
