The signing ceremony for the acquisiton contract of 227 Infantry Fighting Vehicles (IFV) Piranha V will take place at 13.00 hrs., on Friday, January 12th, at the defence ministry HQ in the attendance of defence minister Mihai Fifor.

Journalists interested in participating in the activity are invited at the defence ministry HQ, (check point 3, next to Marriot Hotel), between 12.15 and 12.45, on Friday, January 12th.

The Government of Romania adopted on November 29th the measures necessary for the first stage of the procurement program 8x8 Infantry Fighting Vehicle, with a view to acquire 227 armoured vehicles on PIRANHA 5 platform and the initial logistic support of General Dynamics European Land Systems - Mowag GmbH.

The 8x8 Infantry Fighting Vehicle is an essential means of transportation in carrying out the specific tasks of the Romanian Land Forces. The vehicle is highly mobile and offers enhanced protection to the troops on board, irrespective of terrain or weather conditions.

At present, the Romanian Land Forces are equipped with vehicles that are obsolete in terms of technology and travel speed.
