Defence Minister's Meeting with His Georgian Counterpart

The Minister of National Defence, Mihai Fifor, had a meeting with his Georgian counterpart, Levan Izoria, at the defence ministry, on Wednesday, January 31st, during the latter's visit in Romania.

The talks agenda included topics of mutual interest related to bilateral cooperation, the current state of the relations between the two countries and the new perspectives of enhancing the dialogue on defence.

The activity was a good opportunity to reiterate Romania's strong commitment in supporting the efforts of the Georgian partner to join the Euro-Atlantic structures. In this respect, the defence minister stressed that our country will continue to actively support the process of reform and modernization of the Georgian Armed Forces, with a view to strengthening defence and increasing interoperability with the allied states. Minister Mihai Fifor spoke highly of Georgia's participation in NATO's Resolute Support mission in Afghanistan, as the most significant operational effort of the Alliance.

The Georgian defence minister said his country is interested in developing the cooperation with Romania and mentioned the intention to increase participation in the education and training activities conducted in our country.

Also, the two ministers agreed on initiating a consultation process on identifying new defence coopperation projects, while taking into account the developments of the current security environment in the Black Sea region.
