Defence Minister's Meeting with His Moldavian Counterpart in Chisinau

The Minister of National Defence, Mihai Fifor, made an official visit to Chisinau, the Republic of Moldova, on Monday, February 5. He had a bilateral meeting with his Moldavian counterpart, Eugen Sturza, to discuss bilateral military cooperation, strengthening regional security and the cooperation relations of the Republic of Moldova with NATO and the EU.

During the official talks, minister Mihai Fifor declared that Romania will continue to sustain the territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova and to support its endeavour to join the EU.

As to the bilateral cooperation on defence, the two officials discussed the initiation of new cooperation projects to be developed in the future.

In the next period of time, I will make a point of training the Moldavian military, by participating jointly in exercises and training activities, by offering expertise in drafting documents and participating in education programs in Romania. We will also endorse the implementation of the commitments Moldova assumed within the EU and NATO mechanisms and programs, minister Mihai Fifor stated.

The Defence Minister of the Republic of Moldova, Eugen Sturza, thanked the Romanian side for their constant support and stated that the efforts will continue to modernize and reform the Armed Forces, mainly in respect of training and equipment.

The two officials emphasized the need to enhance cooperation on defence, and the importance of cohesion and unity, especially in the current international and regional security context.
