The meeting of the Minister of National Defence with his Israeli counterpart

Defence Minister Mihai Fifor had official talks with his Israeli counterpart, Avigdor Lieberman, on Tuesday, February 27th. During the meeting, priority topics have been approached on the bilateral agenda of the military cooperation, as well as issues related to the international security situation. The defence cooperation with the State of Israel has been strengthened in the recent years, focusing primarily on the strategic dialogue, training activities for the armed forces, as well as on the active cooperation in the procurement area, as part of the programs run by the Romanian Armed Forces.

The two officials appreciated the military cooperation at the level of the Services, stressing that it is important to identify the new areas of cooperation in the context of the developments in the international security environment.

The Romanian official presented the procurement priorities of the Romanian armed forces in the context of the allocation of 2% of GDP for defence, highlighting the cooperation opportunities opened in this context.

Minister Fifor made a visit to Sourasky Medical Center, Ichilov Hospital, to visit the emergency medicine facilities, where he had discussions with the deputy general director of the medical unit, Professor Itzhak Shapira, who pointed out the main facilities and programs of the hospital. In this context, Mihai Fifor evoked that it is very important, in the next period, to take steps for the cooperation between the "Carol Davila" Central Military Emergency Hospital in Bucharest and the Sourasky Medical Center in Tel Aviv, including from the perspective of the specialization of young military doctors from Romania.

In the context of the visit to Israel, the Defence Minister visited several Israeli companies, Rafael, Elbit, IMI, IAI, IWI, where he had talks on the possibilities of industrial cooperation in the military field.
