The Chief of the General Staff, General Nicolae-Ionel Ciucă, met with the Chief of the General Staff of the Polish Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Leszek Surawski, on Tuesday, February 27th, at the General Staff headquarters.

During the official visit, Lieutenant-General Leszek Surawski was also received by the State Secretary and Head of the Department for Defense, Planning and International Relations Policy, Mircea Dușa. The main topics of discussion were the evolution of the security situation in the region, the state of the bilateral relations, in the context of the strategic partnership between the two states, the identification of new areas of cooperation between the armed forces of the two countries and the diversification of the joint training methods.

"There is an excellent bilateral cooperation between Romania and Poland, which we have to consolidate, by virtue of our common interests. Our countries have managed to focus the Allies' attention on the eastern flank of NATO, and now our efforts must be directed towards further measures to strengthen the deterrence and defense posture in a coherent, balanced and integrated approach. This year's NATO Summit is a good opportunity to send a firm message in this regard", Mircea Dușa said.

During the meeting with the Chief of the General Staff, General Nicolae Ciucă, the current and future activities of the two armies were debated, focusing on their development and consolidation.

The Romanian-Polish military cooperation activities cover areas such as political-military dialogue, joint training exercises, military education and main procurement programs.

In accordance with the measures adopted at the 2016 NATO Warsaw NATO Summit, the Romanian Armed Forces contribute in Poland with AD detachment as part of the NATO Battle Group led by the USA.

At the same time, Poland participates with a detachment in the structure of the 26th Infantry Battalion "Neagoe Basarab" within the South-East Multinational Brigade, thus materializing the commitments assumed by Romania and Poland on the reinforced allied presence on the Eastern flank of the Alliance (tailored Forward Presence).

During his stay in Romania, the Polish military official will also visit the Multinational Brigade in Craiova, where he will meet the Polish soldiers deployed here.
