A New Course on "Security and Good Governance" at the National Defence College

The Minister of National Defence Mihai Fifor, attended the opening of the 23rd edition of the "Security and Good Governance" course at the National Defence College, on Monday, April 23rd.

The course, designed for military and civilian personalities, aims at training highly skilled specialists in developing public security strategies and policies correlated with domestic political processes and important events taking place in the strategic space of Romania.

In his opening speech, Mihai Fifor pointed out that about 3,900 students have graduated from the National Defence College since its establishment in 1992 to the present, who are contributing to the integration of this military organisation with the social and political system of the state of the rule of law. "In its 26 years of activity, the college has proved to be a centre of academic excellence that promotes security culture, a school of political and military elites".

At the end of his speech, Minister Fifor encouraged the future students: "You are the future military and civilian leaders responsible for the national security of Romania. We are inside a special framework for dialogue and cooperation between the armed forces and the other institutions of the state of the rule of law. I would like to be equally open in the future and to support one another in conducting different projects".

The post-graduate course of professional development in the field of national security and defence of the National Defence College consists of three courses: “Introduction to National Security”, “Actual Issues of National Security”, "Security and Good Governance".

So far, 1,022 students graduated from the course on "Security and Good Governance", 97 of which graduated in 2017.

As other institutions of higher education, the National Defence College contribute to training future military and civilian leaders with responsibilities in the national security of Romania. In order to accomplish its task, the National Defence College cooperates closely with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Romanian Intelligence Service, the Foreign Intelligence Service, other ministries, agencies or local and public authorities that are open to the cooperation with the civil society.
