Canadian CF-18 Hornet Aircraft at Mihail Kogalniceanu Air Base

The hand-over/take-over ceremony of the Enhanced Air Policing Mission between the Royal Air Forces of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and the Northern Ireland and the Royal Canadian Forces took place on Wednesday, August 29, at 57th Mihail Kogalniceanu Air Base.

The Canadian detachment that is being deployed to our country this week will consist of approximately 135 servicemen (pilots and technical personnel) and five CF-18 Hornet aircraft that will conduct air policing missions together with the MiG-21 LanceR aircraft and servicemen of the Romanian Air Force, in the following four months.

The five CF-18 Hornet aircraft and their aeronautic personnel are detached from the 425th Aviation Squadron, Bagotville, Quebec, the support personnel being provided by two aviation structures from the same Canadian garrison, RCAF 2 Wing, respectively RCAF 3 Wing.

The missions conducted jointly will contribute to developing the reaction and deterrence capability and to increasing interoperability between the Romanian and Royal Canadian Air Forces.

Today's activity was conducted in the presence of the Ambassador of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Andrew Noble, and the Ambassador of Canada, Kevin Hamilton, while the Ministry of National Defence was represented by the Chief of Air Force Staff , Air Flotilla General Viorel Pana.
