Defence Minister's Meetings with Members of the US Congress

On Tuesday, September 25th, Defence Minister Mihai Fifor had a series of meetings with the US Senators Lindsey Graham prominent member of the Budget Allocations Committee and Committee on Armed Services, Joni Ernst Chairman of Emerging Threats and Capabilities Subcommittee and with James Inhofe Chairman of the Committee on Armed Services.

The talks agenda included common interest topics, such as the projects conducted in the context of the European Deterrence Initiative/EDI; Romania - USA bilateral cooperation in the field of defence; defence and acquisition planning; resources allocated for defence; major procurement programs run together with the US partner and the dependable undertaking status.

During the talks, the official tackled the dynamics of the implementation of the Strategic Partnership between Romania and the United States and the constant support given to our country by the USA, especially in ensuring security on the Eastern flank of the Alliance.

Also, minister Mihai Fifor invited the senators to visit Romania in the near future in order to continue the meetings initiated with the Romanian officials and to witness on the spot the concrete aspects of cooperation between Romania and the United States of America, as part of the projects conducted jointly in Mihail Kogalniceanu, Campia Turzii or Deveselu Military Bases.

In this context, Senator Lindsey Graham already announced that he scheduled several visits to Europe for October this year, when he will avail himself of the opportunity to visit Romania.
