The inauguration of the First World War Romanian Heroes’ Monument raised in Worms, Germany

On Tuesday, October 9th, State Secretary Nasta attended the inauguration ceremony of WWI Romanian Heroes’ Monument, raised in Auf Der Hochimer Höhe Cemetery, Worms city, Renania-Palatinat Land, Germany.

The German part was represented by the Mayor of Worms city, Michael Kissel.

The event consisted in a military and religious ceremony and the solemn reading of the names of the 168 Romanian soldiers who lost their lives in the war prison camp which was operated in this locality, during World War I.

The building of the monument was funded by the Ministry of National Defence, through the National Office for the Cult of Heroes and raised with the support of Worms City-Hall. The finalization of this project set the stage for the organization of several commemorative events to honor the Romanian servicemen fallen on German territory.

As a sign of gratitude, the participants laid wreaths of flowers to the monument, at the end of the ceremony.

The event is part of the manifestations organized by the Romanian state to mark the First World War Centenary. At the end of the armed conflict, the Romanian people succeeded in achieving their national unity project – The Great Union from December 1st, 1918.
