State Secretary Nicolae Nasta, at ATHENA 18 Security and Crises Management Conference

State Secretary for the Liaison with the Parliament and Personnel Welfare from the Ministry of National Defence participated in ATHENA 18 Security and Crises Management Conference , which was held over 13th-15th November, in Athens.

During the working sessions, the State Secretary emphasized Romania's commitment to contributing to the consolidation of NATO's force structure by establishing and assigning several regional commands to the North-Atlantic Alliance. These measures translate into a strong Allied reassurance and solidarity signal, in the current complex security environment.

The regional conflicts and crises from areas such as Eastern Europe, Western Balkans, Middle East and North Africa tend to interconnect, generating cumulative effects which require the adaptation of the security and defence strategies at national level as well as at the level of the main regional and international security organizations : NATO and EU, Nicolae Nasta stated.

Throughout the conference, State Secretary Nicolae Nasta met with the Greek Defence Minister, Panagiotis Panos Kammenos, the chief of the Hellenic Navy General Staff, Vice Admiral Nikolaos Tsounis, and the SEEBRIG Commander, Brigadier General Tudorica Petrache.

The 15th edition of ATHENA 18 Security and Crises Management Conference aimed at creating an international forum for debating the issues raised during the regional crises management initiatives as well as the current challenges arising from migration, terrorism and hybrid threats in the area of the Mediterranean Sea.

The conference was held by HNDGS under the auspices of the Hellenic MOD, with the participation of several allies and partner states, and attended by academic representation and experts of international political and military organizations.
