On Wednesday, March 13, the Ministry of National Defence made the payment for the procurement of a PAC-2 GEM-T missile package designated to be integrated within the HSAM PATRIOT systems, with a total amount of 85,160,996 $.

The payment was made after signing in February the Third Amendment of the Letter of Offer and Acceptance LOA.

The procurement of the seven SAM systems, four of them for the Air Forces and three for the Land Forces stand for an essential matter of security for our country, taking into account the fact that the procurement of the ground-based air defence capabilities translate into the strengthening of the national and Allied security. This step significantly contributes to the consolidation of the Strategic partnership with the USA.

The procurement of the Patriot system brings an essential defensive capability meant to significantly contribute to NATO collective defence.

Through the Agreement signed with the US government, Romania procures the most updated version of the Patriot system tested in battle, the PATRIOT PAC 3 + system being the most recent model operated by the US Armed Forces.

Fifteen countries rely on Patriot systems in order to protect their citizens and armed forces, among which the United States, Germany, Greece, Netherlands, Spain, Poland and Sweden.
