One of the first astronaut women, dr. Anna Fisher, visited Ferdinand I Military Technical Academy

On Friday, 5 July, Doctor Anna Fisher, one of the first astronaut women met with the students of Ferdinand I Military Technical Academy , as part of the visit the US astronaut pays to Romania, on the occasion of the celebration of 50 years since the first moon landing- Mission Apollo 11.

In Magna Assembly Room of the Academy, dr. Fisher shared the students some of her 41-year experience as part of the NASA crew and enumerated some of the aspects characterizing the astronaut life, starting with the rigorous selection they have to go through, the training programs, the space trips, ending with the mission on a spaceship.
Throughout her career in NASA, dr. Anna Fisher took part in the Space Ships Programme, International Space Station and Orion Spacecraft built for the future Space Launching System of NASA.

After concluding her presentation, dr. Fisher answered the questions addressed by the students, the distinguished visitor wrote a message in the Institution Book of Honor upon leaving.

Dr. Anna Fisher was selected by NASA in January 1978, as one of the first six astronaut women. She was married to astronaut Bill Fisher, who was her colleague and the father of her two children; thus, in 1984, she became the first mother to travel in space.

In 1984, dr. Fisher was the mission specialist on STS-51A Discovery. During the mission, the crew launched two satellites, this being considered the first rescue mission in space, succeeding the recovery of the two satellites before returning on Earth. After finishing her first flight, Fisher had 192 space navigation hours.

Currently, dr. Fisher is a management astronaut and works at the Development of Orion ‘s Digital Display Multipurpose Personnel Crew Vehicle, supporting the European useful tasks for the International Space Station Integration Division.
