The 4 Helicopter Detachment Carpathian Pumas, ready for the peace-keeping mission from Mali

A board of the UN Department for Peace-keeping Operations evaluated, over 15-20 July, the 4-deployable helicopter detachment Carpathian Pumas, from the 57th Mihail Kogalniceanu Air Base, with a view of participating in the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA).

The conclusions drawn after the evaluation certify the fact that the detachment meets the standards set by the Unites Nations for participating in this mission.

The goals to be met and monitored by the board consisted in evaluating the personnel, equipment and materiel with a view of establishing the detachment's readiness level required to accomplish the commitment assumed by means of the papers signed by Romania and UN.

The Romanian detachment participating in the mission that is to be initiated at the middle of October will be made up of approximately 120 people (pilots, technical and medical personnel) and 4 IAR-330 Puma L-SAR helicopters.

Romania will support UN in assisting the Government of the Republic of Mali to continue the implementation of the Peace Agreement, the protection of civilians and preventing the hostile armed elements to return to the populated area. The Romanian detachment will conduct MEDEVAC/CASEVAC missions, troop and material transportation, passenger transportation missions, air patrolling and observation missions.
