Corporal IIIrd class Ciprian-Stefan Polschi fell on duty in Afghanistan

The Romanian soldier who lost his life today, 5 September, in Afghanistan, is Corporal IIIrd class Ciprian-Stefan Polschi, who was assigned driver within NATO Kabul Headquarters ‘structures.

The soldier lost his life following the explosion of a car bomb, nearby the Green Zone from the capital city of Afghanistan, while he was driving the military vehicle.

Corporal IIIrd class Ciprian-Stefan Polschi was 38, was married and had two children. He had been in the service of the Ministry of National Defence since 2004 and it was his third mission in Afghanistan.

Defence Minister Gabriel Les signed the post-mortem promotion order of Ciprian-Stefan Polschi to the second-lieutenant rank and submitted the President of Romania the proposal of awarding the soldier the National Order Steaua Romaniei in the rank of knight, with the war mark.

The MoND leadership expresses its deepest regret for this tragic event and sends its condolences to the family in mourning.

On Friday, 6 September, commemoration ceremonies for the loss of the soldier who fell on duty will be organized in all military units throughout the country.
