Tomb restoration camp of the Romanian heroes buried in Lambowice, Poland

The tomb restoration camp was organized over 21-29 September, in Lambowice, Poland, where over 2,350 Romanian heroes fallen on duty during the IWW are inhumed. The heroes are buried in the War Prisoner Cemetery, one of the biggest necropolis in Europe.

The restoration works were made by soldiers of Blue Scorpios AD Detachment, Nicolae Balcescu Land Forces Academy, Henri Coanda Air Force Detachment, Mircea cel Batran Naval Forces Academy and the National Office for the Heroes' Cult.

The activity was organized based on the Agreement between the Government of Romania and the Government of Poland on war graves, signed at Warsaw on May 25 2018 and ratified by Law no. 299/2018.

After the finalization of the restoration works, there was a wreath laying ceremony at the central monument from the War Prisoners Camp, in the memory of the Romanian and foreign heroes inhumed in the necropolis. The representatives of the Lambowice City Hall and of the War Prisoners Museum from the locality attended the ceremony, together with the Romanian soldiers who performed the restoration works. The Romanian Embassy to Warsaw was represented by the Romanian defence attache in Poland, Colonel Dragos Florea.

Lambowice tomb restoration camp precedes an ampler tomb restoration project which the Ministry of National Defence, through the National Office for the Cult of Heroes, will conduct in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
