The Second Day of the Meetings of NATO Defence Ministers

On Friday, 25 October, the defence ministers of the allied countries had an exchange of opinions on the status of the implementation of the reinforced deterrence and defence posture and the equitable burden sharing principle.

During the meeting, the officials approached aspects referring to the progresses made in the consolidation and adaptation of the Allied deterrence and defence posture, implementation of NATO Readiness Initiative/NRI , initial concept on deterrence and defence of the Euro-Atlantic region as well as the strengthening of the Alliance maritime posture.

In his allocution, State Secretary for Defence Policy, Planning and International Relations, Doru-Claudian Frunzulica, presented the status of the implementation of the tailored Forward Presence (tFP), thus, reiterating his appeal towards the allies to support the implementation of all assumed tFP projects and the participation with additional forces affiliated to the Multinational Brigade from Craiova, with a view of increasing its readiness level in order to be able to act in all circumstances.

Also, the state secretary mentioned the need to reinforce the Allied presence in Romania in order to counter the threats and volatile security situation from the Black Sea region.

The last working session in the RSM format was a good opportunity to talk to our operational partners about the progress made in the peace-keeping process from Afghanistan, the contributions made by the NATO state members and partners but also the future involvement of the international community in supporting Afghanistan.

As part of the ministerial reunion, the Romanian official had a bilateral meeting with the High Civilian Representative for Afghanistan, Sir Nicholas Kay, the discussion focusing on the security situation from Afghanistan and the evolutions of RSM.
