The first MEDEVAC mission performed by the Romanian detachment deployed in Mali

The Romanian soldiers deployed to participate in the Unites Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) executed their first live MEDEVAC mission in the theater of operations on Tuesday, 29 October.

The crews of the two IAR 330 L-RM helicopters, one configured for MEDEVAC missions and the other configured to offer support, were mobilized to evacuate a UN soldier who was on patrol mission and suffered a thermic shock caused by the high temperature.

During the MEDEVAC flight, the patient was assisted by the medical team made up of a doctor and two medical assistants with competencies in the field of patients MEDEVAC and assistance. After the landing of the aircraft, the patient was taken over by the ROL 1 German ambulance to continue provide for his treatment and surveillance.

Starting October, Romania has been contributing to the international peace-keeping efforts in MINUSMA Mission in Mali with an Air Force detachment made up of 120 servicemen and four IAR-330 L-RM Helicopters.

On Tuesday, 29 October, the Carpathian Pumas Detachment reached its full operational capability and can perform, under UN command, the entire range of missions, in accordance with the MINUSMA mandate.
