Defence Minister's Meetings with the Ambassador of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and the Ambassador of the Republic of Italy

Defence Minister Nicolae-Ionel Ciuca had an official meeting with the Ambassador of the United Kingdom of Great Britain to Bucharest, Andrew Noble, on 12 December.

During the talks, the officials emphasized the importance of the Strategic Partnership between Romania and Great Britain as well as the perspectives of enhancing defence cooperation as essential elements for the security and stability for our country and the region Romania is part of, in the current geostrategic context.

The visit of the British diplomat to the MoND headquarters represented a good opportunity to discuss topics of common interest on the cooperation with the United Kingdom both at bilateral level and in the BREXIT context.

Also, defence minister Nicolae-Ionel Ciuca had a meeting with the Ambassador of the Republic of Italy, Marco Giungi, today, at the MoND Headquarters.

The two officials talked about the bilateral cooperation in the field of defence, as well as about Italy's contribution to the Headquarters Multinational Brigade South East, Craiova.

Minister Nicolae Ciuca and Ambassador Marco Giungi analyzed the topics listed in the Joint Declaration adopted by the Allies following the London NATO Summit, with focus on the implementation of the reassurance measures and Allied presence on the Eastern Flank. In this context, the minister of national defence thanked the Italian Ambassador for the contribution brought by his country to the consolidation of the Eastern Flank of the Alliance by means of the participation of the Eurofighter Typhoon Italian aircraft in the NATO-led enhanced Air Policing Mission to secure the Romanian air space.

With regard to the omnidirectional approach of NATO, the Romanian defence minister emphasized the support our country offers to the counterterrorist and stability projection efforts beyond the Allied borders.

At the end of the meeting, the two officials highlighted the importance of the continuation and enhancement of the practical cooperation relations between the two armed forces by conducting exercises at bilateral and multinational levels.
