Defence Minister's meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart, as part of the Munich Security Conference

Minister of National Defence, Nicolae Ciuca, had a bilateral meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart, Andriy Zahorodniuk, as part of the Security Conference, on Friday, 14 February.

During the talks, the officials emphasized the significant progress made by Romania and Ukraine in the field of defence cooperation as well as the favorable perspectives for its development, with focus on the increase of interoperability by joint participation in various multinational exercises.

The two dignitaries analyzed the recent evolutions of the regional security situation and concrete cooperation ways to implement the Package of Allied Measures destined to increase security at the Black Sea, adopted in April 2019, at Washington. Both parties expressed their interest for the intensification of common actions conducted in order to ensure a stability climate in the extended region in the Black Sea, with a special significance for the European security.

The Romanian defence minister recommended the consolidation of the Ukrainian partnership with NATO and UE, as well as rendering profitable the specific instruments designated to the partners, at the same time saluting the progress made in the process of training and building of the Ukrainian armed force capabilities. In this context, the dignitaries emphasized the good level of cooperation within the projects developed within Allied and EU format, especially the implementation of the initiatives comprised in the Alliance's Overarching Package for Ukraine.
