Defence Minister's meeting with UN Under-Secretary General for Peace-keeping Operations

As part of the Munich Security Conference, defence minister Nicolae-Ionel Ciuca had a meeting with the UN Under-Secretary General for Peace-keeping Operations, Jean-Pierre Lacroix, on Saturday, 15 February.

The meeting of the two dignitaries was an opportunity to restate Romania's commitment for the consolidation of the security at international level by means of an active implication within the UN-led peace-keeping missions and operations. In this context, Jean-Pierre Lacroix reiterated the appreciation of the UN leadership for Romania's participation with a helicopter transportation detachment in the MINUSMA Mission, between October 15 2019- October 14 2020.

During the talks, the officials discussed the latest actions conducted by the UN with respect to the implementation of the Action for Peacekeeping initiative launched by the General Secretary of the Organization, in March 2018, with a view of increasing the efficiency of the peace-keeping operations. This desideratum is based on a process of the intensification of the preparation of the missions and the assignment of certain robust and credible capabilities that will allow the successful accomplishment of the mandates given by the UN Security Council.
