Meetings of the defence minister with representatives of the Atlantic Council

Minister of National Defence, Nicolae-Ionel Ciuca, had a bilateral meeting with the Chairman of the North Atlantic Council, Frederick Kempe, as part of the Munich Conference, and participated in a round-table talk chaired by General (ret.) James Jones, former Supreme Allied Commander (SACEUR) and Honorific Executive President of the NAC.

During the meeting with the Chairman of the NAC, which took place on Sunday, 16 February, the defence minister reiterated the importance Romania pays to the Strategic Partnership with the USA , in all fields of activity, with focus on strategic and defence areas. Also, the minister thanked for the constant support given in the promotion of the security agenda of Romania and expressed his conviction that this trend would continue.

Minister Ciuca reminded of the fruitful collaboration within the multilateral projects such as the Initiative of the Three Seas and Military Mobility, emphasizing the fact that military mobility is both a national and NATO and EU priority, being a critical element in the consolidation of the Allied defence and deterrence posture.

It is important to take into consideration the need to ensure a geographical balance and the connectivity of all transportation fields: ground, air and maritime- in order to develop the European transportation infrastructure, concluded the minister of national defence.

On Saturday afternoon, 15 February, following the invitation of General (ret.) James Jones, minister Nicolae-Ionel Ciuca participated in the round-table talk entitled Secured 5G in Defence, National Security and Society.
