The soldiers of Carpathian Pumas Detachment from the Mali theater of operations, decorated with the UN Medal
The soldiers of Carpathian Pumas Detachment participating in MINUSMA Mission from Mali were awarded medals on 25 February, in Camp Castor Base, Gao.

The Romanian soldiers meet all eligibility criteria as members of MINUSMA Mission and were awarded the UN medal for their professionalism and involvement in the UN-led missions conducted throughout the five months they have been in the Mali theater of operations.

The ceremony was held in the presence of the Special Representative of the UN General Secretariat, Mahamat Saleh Annadif, and the MoND delegation headed by the Commander of the Joint Forces Command, Major General Ionita Dorin.

The symbolistic of the medals and their ribbon is tightly connected to the UN and the Mali state. The blue color from the margins symbolize the representative color of the United Nations Organizations. The national colors of Mali are present, followed by the dark blue placed in the center, symbolizing the color of Niger, the only river which crosses the North-West of Africa. At the same time, one of the colors of the ribbon is light yellow, recalling the area of Sahel (the geographical form making the transition between savanna and desert), specific to North Africa.
