45 tons of medical equipment airlifted from South Korea with a C-17 Globe Master III Aircraft

The Ministry of National Defence has requested an emergency flight for the airlift of approximately 45 tons of medical equipment from Seoul to Bucharest, through the NATO Strategic Airlift Capability deployed to Papa Air Base, Hungary.

The equipment, consisting of 100.000 medical protective overall suits, has been procured by Romania as part of the efforts to combat the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic spread throughout the country.

The flight will be executed with a C-17 Globe Master III Aircraft, as part of the shared availability flight hours allotted to Romania as a participation nation to the NATO Strategic Airlift Capability.

One of The crew commander for this flight is Romanian Air Force lieutenant-commander (OF-3) George Craciun, who is currently assigned with the Strategic Airlift Capability.

The aircraft is scheduled to land on Otopeni Airport Thursday, 26th March.

The MoND Press Office will provide imagery to journalists from the arrival of the NATO aircraft and the transfer of the equipment for land transportation.

In 2008, Romania signed as founding member the Memorandum of Understanding for the establishment of the Strategic Airlift Capability (SAC), together with other nine NATO countries - Bulgaria, Estonia, Lithuania, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Slovenia, USA and Hungary, and two member states of the Partnership for Peace - Finland and Sweden.
