The ROL 2 Hospital located within the premises of Ana Aslan Gerontology and Geriatrics Institute from was declared operational on Saturday, 28 March, in the presence of the President of Romania, Klaus Iohannis and Prime Minister Ludovic Orban.

The activity was also attended by the minister of national defence, Nicolae-Ionel Ciuca, minister of internal affairs, Marcel Vela, minister of health, Nelu Tataru, State Secretary Raed Arafat and the Chief of Defence Staff, Lieutenant General Daniel Petrescu.

After finalizing the accreditation procedures that will take place at the Ministry of Health, the ROL 2 Hospital will function as an external section of the Central Military Emergency Hospital. The medical facility will provide specialized medical assistance to the patients potentially infested with SARS-CoV-2 virus for the easy and medium cases.

Defence Minister Nicolae-Ionel Ciuca thanked the entire personnel who contributed to the installation and rendering operational of the ROL 2 Hospital in such a short time. 'I would like to thank the entire personnel who got involved in the establishment of this medical facility; it was an effort assumed by the Romanian Armed Forces' soldiers and here I would like to start by mentioning the Medical Directorate personnel, the Central Military Emergency Hospital from Bucharest who succeeded in bringing together the experience accumulated over time, especially the exercises and missions we have participated in', minister Ciuca stated.

This hospital cannot function without having the Central Military Emergency Hospital as backup, we are all a team and I would like to thank for the way the campus and the ROL 2 Hospital look like, to thank not only Ana Aslan Hospital, the Ministry of National Defence and the companies that provided the utilities stated physician Major General Florentina Ionita-Radu, Commandant of the Central Military Emergency Hospital, at the end of the activity.

The hospital consists in medical tents and containers, which include, among others, triage units, laboratory, radiology, sterilization, decontamination area, the structure being declared operational from the administrative and medical perspective, after having gone through all medical procedures in force.

At the same time, a camp consisting in more than 130 spaces of accommodation destined to the easy and medium forms of the patients infested with COVID-19 functions within the premises of of Ana Aslan Gerontology and Geriatrics Institute, while the Emergency Department and the spaces for the accommodation of the personnel manning the medical facility are also quartered within the institute.

The Medical Directorate, the Land Forces Staff, the Air Force Staff, the Joint Logistic Command and the Communications and Information Technology Command support the MoND activity in this respect.

The MoND ROL 2 Hospital also functioned as external section for infectious diseases to combat Ebola virus and was part of the NATO Exercises Saber Guardian 19 and Vigorous Warrior 19 the amplest medical exercise organized so far by the North-Atlantic Alliance.
