Increase of the molecular testing capacity SARS CoV-2 at Cantacuzino Institute

By reorganizing the activity flow, increasing the efforts made by the teams of specialists and reconfiguring its working schedule, the Cantacuzino National Institute for Medical-Military Research and Development, through the Viral Respiratory Infection Laboratory, succeeded in increasing the number of tests processed daily from the tests collected from the patients suspect of being infected with SARS CoV-2.

If, at the beginning of the testing activity the institute specialists could process up to 250 tests daily, the level of the tests processed increased up to 400 samples processed in 24 hours.

Viral Respiratory Infection Laboratory of the Institute, accredited in 1969 by the World Health Organization and the Reference Center for Influenza in Romania, has so far processed almost 4,500 molecular tests collected from people suspect to have been infected with the SARS CoV-2.

The high-tech equipment, consumable materiel and the sanitary and pharmaceutical materiel procured by the Institute enabled the increase of the molecular testing capability at the highest level, at the same time setting the grounds for the further development of the research segment.

The CantacuzinoNational Institute for Medical-Military Research and Development provides continuous support to the central and local authorities from the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Internal affairs, Public Heath Directions and civilian and military hospitals and private clinics in the combat of SARS CoV-2 virus.
