The MoND General Directorate for Armaments sent on Wednesday, 20 May, to Avioane Craiova S.A., the invitation to participate in the negotiation procedure for the contract awarding (without previous publication) of the product Revitalize and upgrade 10 MoND IAR-99 Standard aircraft into IAR-99 SM configuration.

By launching the participation invitation to Avioane Craiova S.A., the Ministry of National Defence respects the Strategic Orientation assumed in the implementation of the major procurement programs, which is to involve the national defence industry resources, to the greatest extent possible.

The Revitalization and upgrading of the 10 IAR-99 Standard aircraft into IAR-99 SM configuration (Standard Upgraded) aims at achieving air schooling and training capability for the advanced training of the pilots so that they can make the transition to F-16 aircraft operated by the Romanian military aviation as well as maintaining close air support capability and intervention to achieve low speed air targets.

By sending this invitation, the MoND took the first step stipulated in the legal procedure applicable in this situation; Avioane Craiova S.A is to make an offer which must meet all requirements established by the Romanian Air Force. The effective revitalization and upgrading will take place over 2020-2024 if the company meets all legal stipulations for the contract awarding.
