Participation of Minister Nicolae-Ionel Ciuca in the Videoconference of the NATO Defence Ministers

During the first day of the Videoconference of the NATO Defence Ministers, the Allied Ministers evaluated the implementation status of NATO's deterrence and defence posture, with focus on the implications generated by Russia's development of the dual and nuclear missile systems for the European and Euro-Atlantic security. In this respect, the officials adopted a coherent package of political and military adaptation measures and reasserted NATO's substantial commitment for the control, disarmament and proliferation of armaments.

Nuclear deterrence and the Alliance answer to the developments of the security environment were also approached in the Nuclear Planning Group Reunion. (NPG).

In his allocution, within the North-Atlantic Council, defence minister Nicolae-Ionel Ciuca pleaded for the need to efficiently implement the tFP measures in the Black Sea region and reiterated his appeal to the Allies for an increase of their contribution to the projects developed in this region that is of strategic importance for NATO. Also, defence minister Ciuca expressed his support for the deepening of the Alliance posture adaptation in relation to the current and future security challenges as well as for the enactment of the Concept for Deterrence and Defence of the Euro-Atlantic Area (DDA), as an important step in the efforts made to ensure a coherent defence of the entire Allied territory.

The debates of the Allies on the Allied missions and operations aimed at evaluating NATO Resolute Support Mission (RSM) from Afghanistan by means of its adjustments and negotiations in the region. Also, the officials made an assessment of the situation from Iraq by analyzing the premises of the planning process in order to establish the future role of the Alliance in this country. In this context, Romania expressed its support for the continuation of the Allied effort and commitments in a flexible manner, in accordance with the dynamics of the specific operational requirements and evolutions from the field.
