Participation of the Chief of Defence Staff in the EU Military Committee

The chief of Defence Staff, Lieutenant General Daniel Petrescu, participated in the Reunion of the EU Military Committee (EUMC) from Brussels, over 8-9 July.

The agenda of the meetings of the EU chiefs of Defence included topics such as UE-NATO cooperation, evaluations of the security threats against EU, the status of the development of the strategic orientation instrument and the current status of the EU military missions, challenges (including on the limitation of the spread of COVID-19) and perspectives for the military training missions from the Central African Republic, Mali (EUTM Mali) and Somalia (EUTM Somalia) but also aspects on the security of the migrating flows or lessons learned identified during the COVID-19 pandemics regarding the command and control structures.

EUMC is the highest forum of the European Union Council in the field of the Common Defence and Security Policy, by bringing together the chiefs of Defence from the EU member states or their military representatives from Brussels. The structure is headed by a Chairman chosen by the EU Chiefs of Defence and appointed by the European Union Committee.
