The Commander of the NATO Special Operations Headquarters, at the MoND Headquarters

Defence Minister Nicolae-Ionel Ciuca and the chief of Defence Staff, Lieutenant General Daniel Petrescu, met with Lieutenant General Eric P. Wendt, the Commander of the NATO Special Operations Headquarters ,on Tuesday, 28th July, at the MoND Headquarters.

The talks focused on current topics of the NATO agenda such as Allied efforts in the context of the medical crisis generated by the COVID 19 pandemics, the three officials reviewing the main missions conducted.

Minister Nicolae-Ionel Ciuca expressed his appreciation for the substantial support offered by the Special Operations Headquarters to the Romanian soldiers who act within the Resolute Support Mission from Afghanistan. The mission from Afghanistan will stay essential for Romania, we are permanently assessing with our partners the security development from the region so that the stabilization of Afghanistan continue, defence minister stated.

In this context, the defence minister appreciated that the good level of cooperation between the Headquarters and the Special Operations Forces is a very good one both during the exercises and throughout the missions conducted in the theaters of operations.

In his turn, the chief of Defence Staff , Lieutenant Generalul Daniel Petrescu, presented the American official aspects referring the development of the special operations force structures from the Romanian Armed Forces , the status of the infrastructure building required for the force generation/regeneration, the missions of the Romanian special operations forces as well as the progress made with regard to the modernization of the structures.
