Romania reacts to the appeal made by the Lebanese authorities

Almost eight tons of medical materiel will be offered to the Lebanese authorities for the management of the effects of the explosion produced at the ammonium nitrate warehouse in Beirut, on 4th August.

Our country was among the states which were asked by the Lebanese Government to offer international assistance, following the activation of the European Civilian Protection Mechanism.

Romania's Government , the civilian society and the representatives of the Lebanese diaspora immediately answered to the appeal made; by joining efforts, a significant quantity of medical equipment is to be donated to the Lebanese state.

The Romanian Air Force got involved in this project and designated two aircrafts ( C-130 Hercules and C-27J Spartan) that will airlift the medical equipment indispensable to the treatment of the victims.

Also, two employees of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations will accompany the cargo and will ensure the hand-over of the medical materiel to the Lebanese authorities.

A member of the European Civilian protection team, assigned by the Ministry of Environment, who is already in the area affected by the explosion, supports the local authorities in coordinating the intervention forces and international assistance.

Journalists interested in attending the departure of the Romanian Air Forces aircraft towards Lebanon, from 90th Airlift Base Otopeni, 1 Zborului Street, will be expected on Saturday, 8th August, between 09.00-09.30.
