Romanian aircraft and US B-52 Strategic Bombers, at Allied Sky 2020 Exercise

Six Romanian Air Force aircraft, alongside Allied aircraft and US B-52 Stratofortress Startegic Bombers participated on Friday, 28th August, in multinational air exercise Allied Sky 2020.

The exercise, whose goal was to reinforce NATO reassurance measures in South-Eastern Europe, contributes to the increase of Romania's trust with respect to the involvement of the United States of America in ensuring regional security.
The exercise was coordinated in the Romanian air space by the Main Air Operational Component of the Air Force Staff and United States Air Forces Europe (USAFE) and included interception and escort missions conducted with MiG-21 LanceR and F-16 Fighting Falcon Aircraft that are in the service of the 71st Air Base Campia Turzii and 86th Air Base Borcea, as well as US B-52 Stratofortress Aircraft.

The participation of the Romanian aircraft in this type of activities allows for the training of the personnel in the execution of such missions and contributes to the development of multinational cooperation in the aviation field by applying common procedures.

Six US Air Force B-52 Stratofortress aircraft participated in Allied Sky 2020 Exercise, by transiting the air space of all 30 NATO member states from Europe and North America, this being the first such exercise conducted in a single day.
In spite of the challenges currently posed by the COVID-19 pandemics, the Allied forces are fully ready to conduct their missions in all areas of responsibility, demonstrating involvement and interoperability, through the successful execution of the joint training exercise.
