Monday, November 1, 04 George Cristian Maior, State Secretary and chief of Department for Euro-Atlantic Integration and Defence Policy participated to the celebration of 85 years since the establishment of “Mihai Viteazu” Liceal Military College in Alba Iulia.
Participants were professors and students, militaries from this garrison, veterans, officers in retreat and reserve, families and representatives of the local administration. There were organized a military and religious ceremony, the lay of wreaths at the Statue of Mihai Viteazu, the visit of the didactical-material base, the halls of tradition and the hall of trophies.
In his speech, Mr. Maior underlined: “In such a moment we have to think about the past and speak about the future. In the 86 years of life, this prestigious military institute offered to the country more then 5,000 graduates. Many representatives of science, education and Armed Forces are coming from this College. I know the educational system here is very high according to the European standards, I know you can compare with the students from other countries with a strong tradition in this area. The real force of a tradition is the capacity to create something new and you, I am convinced, you can do that.”
“Mihai Viteazu” Liceal Military College was established in Targu Mures according to the High Royal Decree No. 3613 from September 23, 1919 signed by King Ferdinand I. For a time, the College functioned in Timisoara and in September 1975 it was re-established in alba Iulia.
