Romanian Soldiers Wounded in Afghanistan

Two soldiers from the 191st Golden Lions Force Protection Battalion have been wounded in Afghanistan on October 21st, around 19.32 (Romania local time), in an improvised explosive device attack while carrying out a patrol mission within their area of responsibility.

The Romanian soldiers were moving in a MRAP (Mine Resistant Ambush Protected) convoy in Kandahar region. The improvised explosive device hit the last vehicle of the convoy. Sergeant Adrian Ioan Czifrak and Corporal Second Class Iosif Ioan Reman have been injured by the explosion.

The Soldiers applied the standard operating procedures settled by the rules of engagement by securing the area, providing first-aid to the wounded and evacuating the entire crew of the damaged vehicle to the ROL-2 Military Hospital from the Kandahar Air Base. The two soldiers are in stable condition and receive proper medical care. The other three members of the crew are medically evaluated according to the standard requirements specific to this situation.

The Minister of National Defence, Nicolae-Ionel Ciuca and the Chief of Defence, Lieutenant-General Daniel Petrescu are permanently in close contact with the 191st Force Protection Battalion Command for updates of the medical status of the injured.

The Romanian soldiers part of the 191st Golden Lions Force Protection Battalion currently deployed to Afghanistan started their six-month tour in August 2020.
