Repatriation of Carpathian Pumas Detachment from Mali

On Saturday, 31st October, the soldiers who were part of the second rotation of the Carpathian Pumas Detachment returned to the country, their repatriation taking place by respecting all health safety measures imposed in order to limit the spread of SARS-CoV-2 virus.

The soldiers will enter into a quarantine period, according to the legal provisions in force.

Carpathian Pumas Detachment accomplished all operational missions requested by the UN, accumulating over 350 combat missions, 18 of which were MEDEVAC ones, approximately 200 reconnaissance/search and air patrol missions, 100 airlift missions, with two rapid deployments executed in support of the UN operations from other sectors in Mopti and Kidal locations.

Over the last year, the Romanian IAR-330 Puma L-RM helicopters executed almost 1,250 flight hours in the Sub-Saharan area, 200 of which were conducted at night, the area of operations assigned to the Romanian detachment being similar to the Romanian territory.

Romania demonstrated to be a trustworthy partner to the international organizations it is part of and supported the UNO in providing support to the Government of the Republic of Mali in implementing the Agreement for Peace, civilian protection and prevention of return of hostile armed elements into the populated areas.

The commitment assumed by Romania towards the United Nations' Organizations by means of which our country contributed to the international peace-keeping efforts within MINUSMA Mission from Mali, ended on October 15th.
