November 25 - designated in 2000, by Resolution A/RES/54/134 of the United Nations General Assembly as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, represents a legal instrument by which governments, the UN agencies, international and non-governmental organizations are invited to hold events meant to draw attention to this issue.

Romania, through the National Agency for Equal Opportunities between Women and Men, joins this endeavour by organizing various activities included in the Campaign for Eliminating Violence against Women and Girls. Thus, every year, between November 25 (the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women) and December 10 (Human Rights Day), 16 days of activism against gender-based violence are being marked by this campaign.
