The Spanish Air Force Detachment ended its mission in Romania

The Spanish Air Force Detachment deployed in Romania, at the 57th Mihail Kogalniceanu Air Base since the beginning of February, ended its enhanced Air Policing Mission on Wednesday, 31st March.

The Spanish Detachment made up of 130 soldiers (pilots and technical personnel) and six Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft, conducted NATO-led enhanced Air Policing Missions for two months together with the Romanian Air Forces soldiers who piloted F-16 Fighting Falcon and MiG-21 LanceR aircraft.

The Spanish Air Force will hand over to the Royal British Air Forces, which are currently being deployed in our country.

The Air Policing Missions conducted jointly contribute to the development of the reaction and deterrence capability as well as to the consolidation of interoperability between the Romanian and other involved states air forces, demonstrating implication and determination in the context of the challenges posed by the COVID -19 pandemics.
