On Monday, 10th May, at the MoND headquarters, Defence Minister Nicolae-Ionel Ciuca received the visit of the Polish Defence Minister, Mariusz Błaszczak, who is in Romania to participate in the B9 Summit, which takes place in Bucharest.
The meeting agenda included topics such as development of bilateral defence cooperation at regional level and within the North-Atlantic Alliance and European Union formats.
The two officials appreciated the importance of this year for our countries, 2021 marking 100 years since the signing of the defensive Alliance between Romanian and Poland. In this context, the defence ministers talked about the joint efforts made in order to point out the importance of the strategic partnership: bilateral activities in the field of military history, conferences and round-table talks dedicated to the military relations between Romania and Poland in the interwar period as well as other cultural-scientific events.
During the talks, ministers Ciuca and Błaszczak approached common interest topics listed on NATO and EU agenda in the context of the reflection processes on the future of the North-Atlantic Alliance (NATO 2030), ongoing at the level of the two organizations, the upcoming June NATO Summit as well as the development of the Strategic Compass at the EU level. The two officials agreed on the utility of a complementary approach of the two processes, in a wider context, and the consolidation of the cooperation between the two organizations on common interest matters.
Romania and Poland are connected not only by a long and steady friendship but by the efforts made in order to consolidate NATO's Eastern Flank and the enhancement of the deterrence and defence posture.
During today's meeting, we emphasized the importance of our involvement in the common projects, the coherent approach of the allied forward presence in the region and the consolidation of the reciprocal contribution in the multinational structures hosted by the two allied states. Only sticking together we shall face the challenges!, defence minister stated, Nicolae-Ionel Ciuca.
The two ministers also participated in the inauguration of the exhibition marking the Centenary of the Romanian-Polish (1921-2021) at the MoND headquarters, where the Polish defence minister handed over decorations to the MoND representatives.
